888poker Returns as Key World Series of Poker Sponsor

LAS VEGAS (Feb. 1, 2017) – The World Series of Poker (WSOP) and 888poker are pleased to announce a renewal of their event sponsorship agreement, continuing and building upon the successful deal that began back in 2015.

As the longest-running, largest, richest and most prestigious poker event in the world, the World Series of Poker (WSOP) dates back 47 years to 1970 and has paid well over $2.4 billion in total prize money to date. The new agreement will again see the WSOP team up with online poker’s premier site for both the 48th and 49th running of the annual festival in Las Vegas.

Hosted at the Rio All-Suite Hotel & Casino, the WSOP attracted 107,833 entrants from 107 different countries in Las Vegas last year with Qui Nguyen winning the prestigious gold bracelet and Main Event top prize of $8,005,310. The extended partnership with the WSOP will provide a useful vehicle in driving 888poker’s already globally established online gambling communities, with online qualifications to both the Las Vegas WSOP (May 30-July 17, 2017) and the 2017 WSOP Europe event in Rozvadov, Czech Republic this Fall.

The global footprint of the event continues to further evolve on television, hosted by 888poker ambassador and the only woman to cash in at both the 2008 and 2009 WSOP Main Events – Kara Scott.

This year will again see 888poker having a prominent sponsorship role at the Series, starting with the return of the highly acclaimed $888 buy-in bracelet tournament. Event #60, dubbed “Crazy Eights”, is an 8-handed hold’em tournament with $888,888 guaranteed for the first place winner taking place on July 1 and July 2, 2017. The tournament drew 6,761 entrants over four starting flights in 2016 (and saw 53-year-old Hung Le, who was playing in his first ever major poker tournament, capture the coveted WSOP gold bracelet.

This year will also see 888poker send more amateur and professional poker players to the WSOP than ever before including an impressive ambassador lineup that includes WSOP European Main Event runner up Chris Moorman as well as three-time WSOP gold bracelet winner Dominik Nitsche whose live tournament winnings exceed $6,566,000.

With 888poker again running their multi-step satellites tournaments (with buy-ins starting from as little as one cent), more than 250 players last year qualified for the WSOP including November Niners Fernando Pons and Griffin Benger, who participated in the Main Event via €30 and €160 satellites respectively. Out of 6,737 players, Pons finished ninth for $1 million while Benger took seventh for $1,250,190.

“WSOP is delighted to have renewed our agreement with 888poker for the third year running,” said WSOP Executive Director, Ty Stewart.

“We’ve seen 888poker really up the stakes in the past few years, with a refreshing new online and offline approach which aims to give the power back to the players. This shared vision and love of the game means it’s a natural partnership for both our brands. I believe this mutually beneficial approach will continue to enhance our user experience and wish our players the best of luck in the Tournament!”

“Our extended partnership with the WSOP is testament to our increasingly dominant position in the industry and our longstanding commitment to making poker more exciting and accessible for players around the world,” said Senior Vice President & Head of B2C at 888 Holdings, Itai Pazner.

“As part of our wider mission to empower all players, and in the interests of giving everyone a shot at winning big, we’ll once again offer our members the incredible opportunity to enter the world’s biggest and most prestigious live tournament, from as little as 1¢.

I’m confident that this year we’ll introduce another record breaking number of players to the WSOP and look forward to seeing some of them on the Final Table. Best of luck!”
